Community Forest Benefits
SOCIAL – Community Integrity
Local decision making by the community of Logan Lake supports resource management that reflects the communities’ values. Local control over the area also provides opportunities to enhance recreation sites, forest related educational opportunities, and skills training for the citizens of Logan Lake. We continue to maintain a positive and mutually respectful relationship with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, and strive to increase awareness of the management of our forests.
ENVIRONMENTAL – Forests Firsts
We implement sound forest stewardship practices on the land base and minimize negative environmental impacts to resource values including wildlife, biodiversity, soils and water. By managing the harvest of timber in the Logan Lake area, we make sure it’s completed responsibly and that proper reforestation practices occur. The Logan Lake Community Forest follows all applicable government legislation, regulations, and policies in managing our tenure area.
ECONOMIC – Local Support
The profits from the Logan Lake Community Forest are re-distributed directly back into the community of Logan Lake and provide revenue for much needed enhancements, grants to non-profit organizations, and scholarships and bursaries for local students. The guaranteed wood supply in our area also sustains, expands, and diversifies local forestry related job opportunities and businesses which stimulates the local economy.
